FREE AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY ‘BOOT CAMP’ WILL HIGHLIGHT CAREER OPTIONS IN FIELD

MONROE, Mich. – Monroe County Community College will host a free Automotive Technology Boot Camp at the Main Campus on Saturday, July 13.

The boot camp is an opportunity for those who are interested in learning more about automotive technology and the skills that are applicable to careers in the field. The one-day, free session will be held in MCCC’s automotive technology lab (Rooms 178 and 180) in the Career Technology Center (Building T) from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Lunch will be provided.

The Boot Camp will provide participants with a basic understanding of the tools and equipment used to diagnose automotive issues and knowledge about the importance of shop safety. Participants will get a hands-on opportunity to conduct a comprehensive safety check on a vehicle.  They will also receive information about the variety of jobs available in the automotive field and the training required for a successful career in the automotive industry.

Participants are required to wear long pants (jeans preferred) and leather work shoes or boots with oil resistant soles. OSHA-approved safety glasses with clear lenses and side shields are required and will be provided if needed. Anyone without proper attire will not be able to participate in the Automotive Technology Boot Camp.

As the automotive industry continues to evolve and incorporate new technologies, professionals with technical knowledge and mechanical abilities are in high demand. Whether it is in the initial engineering, research, design and development phases of production or providing service to car and truck owners after the sale, qualified, well-trained automotive technicians are a necessity. Many of the careers that will be discussed during the Automotive Technology Boot Camp are included on the State of Michigan’s HOT 50 list of high-demand, high-wage jobs through 2026.

The Automotive Technology Boot Camp is free, but registration is required. To register, please contact the MCCC Office of Lifelong Learning at (734) 384-4127 or visit Room 286 in the La-Z-Boy Center.

The Boot Camp is made possible by grant funding from the Region 2 Planning Commission and is a partnership between MCCC, Monroe Learning Bank and Michigan Works! For more information, please call (734) 265-4200.
