Health Sciences Career Options Topic Of Free ‘Boot Camp’

MONROE, Mich. – On Friday, May 31 and Saturday, June 1, Monroe County Community College will host a Health Sciences “Boot Camp” at the college’s Main Campus.

The Boot Camp is an opportunity for those who are interested in learning more about careers that are available in the field of health care. Participants can choose to attend the two-day Boot Camp in morning (9 a.m.-1 p.m.) or afternoon sessions (2-6 p.m.).

In addition to learning about careers, MCCC faculty will discuss the types of training and education required for jobs such as nursing, respiratory therapy, nurse assistant, phlebotomy, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, radiation technology and others.

“The need for well-trained professionals in health care is great,” said Dr. Kim Lindquist, dean of health sciences at MCCC. “Many jobs in this area only require a certificate, which can be completed in about a year, or a two-year associate degree.”

Many of the careers that will be discussed during the Boot Camp are included on the State of Michigan’s HOT 50 list of high-demand, high-wage jobs through 2026.

The Health Sciences Boot Camp is free, but preregistration is required. To register, please contact the MCCC Office of Lifelong Learning at (734) 384-4127 or visit Room 286 in the La-Z-Boy Center.

The Boot Camp sessions will be held in the Gerald Welch Health Education Building in Room H-165.

The Health Sciences Boot Camp is made possible by grant funding from the Region 2 Planning Commission and a partnership among MCCC, the Monroe County Learning Bank and Michigan Works!.

For more information about the Boot Camp, please call (734) 265-4200.
