Oct. 25 Forum Set for Candidates for Board of Trustees

MONROE, Mich. – Voters will get a chance to meet candidates for the Monroe County Community College Board of Trustees at a forum at the college on Oct. 25.

The candidate forum will be at 7 p.m. in the dining room of the Audrey M. Warrick Student Services/Administration Building (Building A).  It will be co-sponsored by MCCC Student Government and the International Studies Club.

Seven candidates are running for two open seats on the board.  Two new trustees will be elected for six-year terms beginning Jan. 1, 2019.  The general election will be held Nov. 6.

Last month, Dr. Edward R. Feldman was appointed by the board to temporarily fill the vacancy created by the June 27 resignation of Marjorie Kreps.  Feldman is not running for re-election. The term for that seat expires on Dec. 31.

The board opted not to make an appointment to serve out the remaining term of the late Dr. James E. DeVries, who died Sept. 13.  That board seat also expires on Dec. 31.

Student Joseph Manley will moderate of the forum.  He will ask questions developed by student groups, as well as questions submitted by the audience.

Candidates who have filed for the vacant trustee positions and have been invited to the forum are Florence Buchanan, Monroe; David N. Heilman, Monroe; David A. Kubiske, Ida; Krista Lambrix, Monroe; Darrel Moore, Lambertville; Jack Schwab, Monroe, and Gerald L. Williams, Monroe.
