In December 1964, Dr. Ronald Campbell was selected by the Monroe County Community College Board of Trustees as the first president of Monroe County Community College at the young age of 39.

Over the next two decades, Dr. Campbell worked diligently to carry out MCCC’s mission. After retirement, Dr. Campbell remained a dedicated fixture on the MCCC campus, contributing invaluable insight and guidance for generation after generation of MCCC employees. He served on The Foundation Board of Directors as first vice chair from its inception in 1999 until 2021.

"Dr. Campbell was a man of rare intellect, talent, integrity and accomplishment. He touched thousands of lives in service to his country, as an educator, as MCCC president and in a dedicated and active retirement as president emeritus," said Foundation executive director, Dr. Joshua W. Myers. "From nothing but a community mandate, he forged an institution of higher learning that has thrived for over 60 years. Ron Campbell’s legacy continues on through the thousands of MCCC students and alumni whose lives are immeasurably better because of the opportunity he made possible. I am so privileged to have known him, learned from him, and will for the rest of my career aspire to the standard of excellence he set by his example."

Dr. Campbell's family has requested that memorial gifts be made to the President Emeritus Dr. Ronald and Blondelle Campbell Endowed Scholarship established by Dr. Campbell.
