What contact information should I provide?

AlertNow allows storing of 5 phone numbers (landline or cell phones), 5 email addresses and 1 text message number(need txt msg capable phone and service plan). Please make sure you have prior permission to add contact information for any individual other than yourself. Misuse of the AlertNow Notification System by placing unauthorized contact information constitutes a violation of MCCC policies.


Is there a charge for registering to receive MCCC AlertNow messages?

This is a free service provided by MCCC. However, your cell phone provider will charge you minutes for receiving the voice messages on your cell phone and for text messages received on your cell phone(make sure you have a plan capable of receiving text messages). Service costs from your cellular provider are your responsibility.


How will my contact information be used?

The information you provide will only be used for the MCCC AlertNow Notification System. It will be kept private and confidential and not shared by MCCC or AlertNow with any other entities.


How is an emergency being defined at MCCC?

MCCC will only use the AlertNow Notification System when it is imperative to contact students, faculty and staff as quickly as possible. This can include delays or closing due to inclement weather, a fire or chemical leak that requires evacuation of a building, or an ongoing criminal incident that requires the campus community to take action to ensure their safety.


Why should I sign up for more than one way to get an emergency message?

An emergency can happen at any time and while you are in any place. Having more than one way for MCCC to contact you helps ensure that you will get the necessary notification and information as quickly as possible. So registering your home and cell phone number ensures you will receive notification in a timely manner.


Does registering automatically update my emergency contact information in my student/employee records folder in Records & Registration/Human Resources?

No. Registering for the MCCC AlertNow Service will not alter the emergency contact information listed in your personal or employee records folder. You will need to contact the proper college office to change your permanent record.


Can I register just an email address?

No, in the AlertNow System, you must register a telephone number to be able to register an email address. You cannot register an email address alone.
